Hi, I'm Maxine Drake.
I did not start with a roadmap handed to me. I started with drive, a dream, and the willingness to invest in myself before it felt comfortable.
Right out of esthetics school, I took a position at a department store. I built a clientele base of 300 clients in 9 months. I worked hard, stayed focused, and treated every client like they were the most important person. My natural talents are relationship-building and earning trust early. Some things will come easy to you as well. I knew from the beginning that building something profitable was going to take real tenacity. I was not looking for a shortcut. I was looking for a foundation.
I found that foundation in mentorship. (When it wasn’t cool). In 2002, I hired a business coach and committed to a year-long contract at $1,500 a month. Yikes, right?! That was a significant investment back then, and I made it anyway, because I understood that investing in yourself is less of a risk and more of a strategy. Within 6 years of earning my esthetic license, I had my own 4,000 sq ft. salon and spa with 19 employees. Whew!
